Emerging Sci-tech Artist Awards

“The overall goal of Emerging Sci-tech Artist Awards is to promote the healthy development of the industry by incubating the productivity of young creative practitioners in China.”

We hope to establish a resource base of media + science and technology art, establish and influence the cultural and art ecology in the region, explore the balanced development model of science and technology + art + business, and create a new type of public art ecology, so as to promote cross-media, media disciplines and cross-enterprise productive practice.

Nowadays, artists who use cross-media means to create are no longer the traditional “studio artists”, they often need to enter the social scene, understand the technology, docking workers, design and display a series of work.

Therefore, we avoided the single display mode of “competition”, and divided the whole activity into six parts: audition, help, promotion, residency, exhibition and award. At the same time, we also hope to give creators respect in every link and have an in-depth understanding of their work.

For the crowd:

Young artists aged 35 and under

Category of works:

01、Media Art (video, sound and light art based on digital technology, as well as cross-media performance using projection and installation)

02、Interactive art (Web, VR&AR and game art based on interactive experiences, and installation works applied to computer programming)

03、Data art (works based on programming, algorithms, data processing)

04、Interdisciplinary art (interdisciplinary practice between biology, materials science, ecology, etc., and artistic creation)

Results Showcase

Introducing | Top 20 & Top 4 works

Under the principle of openness and justice, 10 judges conducted objective and rigorous evaluation and judgment on each work, and a total of 20 works were shortlisted, of which 4 works won the “Jing·Shi·Zi·Ji” award.

EXHIBITION｜DO NOT BLACK OUT

The science and technology art group exhibition「 Do Not Black Out」be held at McaM Shanghai Ming Museum of Contemporary Art on August 28, 2021, which included 20 advanced works from the Season 1
Emerging Sci-tech Artist Awards and invited more than 10 new media and interdisciplinary artists to create. At the same time, the exhibition also created a special section for NFT works.

Forum | Young Institutions

We invited a group of independent institutions, such as the Dynamics of Imagination Laboratory, to discuss the mechanisms and survival of new institutions and organizations, and how institutions generate their own contexts.

Interviews | Return visits by the artists

One year after the support program, we conducted a wave of return visits to the top 20 artists of the Season 1 Emerging Sci-tech Artist Awards, and talked with them again about their ideas of creation, life and the present after two years of “DO NOT BLACK OUT”.
