In March 2021, the Support Programme kicked off its first season of roadshows in 13 cities and 27 institutions, and collected over 400 entries in May.

 

After the objective and rigorous evaluation and judgement of the 10 jury members, we finally selected 20 pieces of artworks for advancement. After 4 months of residency and polishing, these works entered the “Dot Blackout” Technological Art Exhibition with a brand new attitude.

  • Ba Baozhou

    Ba Baozhou

    Ba Baozhou is a project of the same name by the artist group Ba Baozhou. It uses the game as the main medium to invite the audience (players) into a search for “Ba Baozhou” game situation – when you wake up, find that the mobile phone screen is full of push reminders about “Ba Baozhou”, so you need to gradually collect “Ba Baozhou” portrait fragments, to join the tracking. You and Ba Baozhou intruded into each other’s lives.

    Ba Baozhou

    Ba Baozhou was originally formed by a group of art practitioners living and working together in New York City in late 2019. As overseas Chinese living in New York, their shared experience of bonding in a cultural rift inspired them to collaborate on an art project that reflects and explores this experience and the reflections that arose from it.

  • Second Sexual Gaze

    Ren Jiaxuan/Huang Xingtai/Wu Yiying/Cheng Yu

    The Second Sexual Gaze is an interactive wearable device that discusses the differences in subjective rights arising from the act of staring. The device consists of a reversible unit, a frame, a wide-angle infrared camera and a Raspberry PI hardware system. When the eye tracker recognizes the eyes of the audience, the unit at the corresponding body part will be activated and turned into a mirror. Thus, the gazer himself is reflected by the mirror and becomes a part of the body of the staree.

    Ren Jiaxuan
    Born in August 1998, Beijing. Designer, new media installation artist, human-computer interaction researcher. He is currently studying technology and design in the School of Computer Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, and working in the Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Constantly exploring the boundaries of the self and pushing the boundaries of the human imagination. Interested in science and technology art, interactive installation, biological art, love reading. Good at the combination of hardware, installation, art and design.
    Huang Xingtai
    Graduated from the Department of Architecture, Tongji University as a graduate student in Design at the University of California, Berkeley. Her research interests include human-computer interaction, digital product design, critical design and design consulting. His work focuses on technological innovation and inclusive design, in the form of wearables, digitisation of robotic arms, augmented reality (AR) and interdisciplinary research.
    Wu Yiying
    Urban planner, designer, new media art enthusiast, fashion design practitioner from Shanghai. Bachelor of Architecture, Tongji University, Master of Human-Computer Interaction, University of California, Berkeley. Founder of fashion label Ophyta and art space LNM.
    Cheng Yu
    After graduating from industrial design, I worked as a user experience designer in medical field for two years. She is currently studying interaction design at the University of California, Berkeley, where she is committed to using existing technologies across disciplines to conceive tomorrow. For design, she is passionate about helping people make a meaningful exploration of life.

  • Dot _ word _ cloth

    Li Zijie/Wen Biyi/Zhou Pengan

    This is a writing device about media research and automated weaving technology – the reciprocating motion of a computer-driven textile machine as it is fed data to braid a cylindrical, close-fitting fabric. This forum covers topics such as weaving and computing, gender attributes in intellectual production, weaving products and the body, and gender attributes in the textile industry.

    The Computational Editorial Board Group (Li Zijie, Wen Biyi, Zhou Pengan)

    The Computational Editorial Board Group focuses on topics such as computational and computable beyond the computer screen, the relationship between machines and women in the cultural context driven by digital signals, and technological evolution and labor redistribution. Members work together to discuss related issues from weaving and laugh at this inefficient working mechanism.

  • Wind chime

    Long Pan

    In the boom of the electronics industry, a group of people panned for gold in the remains of electronic products, and the metal residue stole into the fields and hid in the living organisms. The rice on the field is swaying in the wind, and under the verbose wind, the “gold mine” in its body is also shaking. “Wind chime” through the way of “plant metallurgy”, the copper hidden in the plant body is refined, and the invisible metal is made into a wind chime, so that it becomes a faint sound. Wind chimes and plants in the field are blown by the wind, any four seasons rotation, things are not people, the sound of wind chimes blowing will coexist with this alienated land.

    Long Pan
    Graduated from the Department of Cross-Media (Master) of China Academy of Art in 2019, and lives and works in Yichun, China. Long Pan is very concerned about microscopic organisms in nature. She often uses plants, fungi and other organisms as materials to make her works. She is not limited to the use of substances or images, but more about the study of living characteristics of organisms. Based on the perspective of these creatures, she found the entry point to intervene in social issues, which became the cornerstone of her understanding of reality and artistic creation.

    Yin Aiwen/Zhao Mengyang/Zhao Yiren

    How can a decentralized society be organized? Can people in this society have a more respectful, equal and sustainable life experience? Driven by this question, the Caring Family Network sees mutual love among people as an essential foundation for a sustainable society, and on this basis envisages a future society based on the caring economy.

    ReUnion Network

    The Caring Family Mutual Aid Network is a network formed by a group of independent collaborators with cross-cultural background and multi-disciplinary practice. These artists, scholars, and engineers, attracted by the Caring Family Network’s concept of a community society centered on a caring economy, came together to experiment, practice, and refine the design prototypes presented by this concept, and in collaboration developed multi-habitat derived artistic and social practices. ReUnion operates primarily in the Netherlands and has been supported by the Netherlands Creative Foundation since 2018.

  • The Maze of Infinite

    Wu Yuanan, Yang Sitao

    The footprint of human exploring the world expands outward along with the increase of entropy. We build various positioning systems, and use dimension to ensure that we do not get lost. However, the universe is too vast and unknown to confuse. This work uses four laser machines and four sound sources in a dark room to create an immersive and psychedelic audio-visual field. Light and sound waves come from four directions, penetrating the fog and throwing them to the ground, blurring the scale of perception in reality, as if summoning people’s perception into the original chaos and finding an infinity in a limited space.

    He is engaged in media art creation and research in Hangzhou. His practices focus on human life activities, space images, space, and light etc. His creations mainly focus on spatial installations, while others also dabble in sound and video media.

    Sitao Yang 

    He is engaged in media art creation and research in Hangzhou. He graduated from the Department of Ceramics and Arts and Crafts of China Academy of Art in 2016, and currently studying for a Master degree in the Open Media department.

  • Flesh image

    Su Yongjian, Liu Daheng

    The Body Image consists of an artificial body device and sensor set. At the exhibition site, subtle changes in the body movements and physiological responses of the performer/viewer are accurately sensed by artificial body devices via sensor sets/cameras, and are responded by feedback of motion and sound. At this point, the artificial body is in a way both an extension of the perceptual dimension of the physical body and a reflection of the self. The technology of disembodied body is transformed into a medium of reshaping body perception, so as to play games with the situation of body otherism and dissociation in the post-human context and ask: Can technology return and awaken the physical body and physical experience that human beings are on the verge of loss?

    Su Yongjian
    Born in Nanning, Guangxi Province in 1994, he studied at the Central Academy of Fine Arts with a master’s degree and a doctorate in Art and Technology. He once studied as an exchange student at Karlsruhe University of Art and Design (ZKM Center for Art and Media) in Germany.
    Liu Daheng
    Born in Shandong, China in 1993, he graduated from the Royal College of Art in Antwerp, the London College of Fashion (University of the Arts London) with a master’s degree in performance costume design, and the National Academy of Chinese Opera with a Bachelor’s degree in character design.

  • Cerro: The State of Mind

    Zhang Handuo, Conor Byron、Noémie Avidar

    As modern science deciphered the human brain, the narrative that thought comes from the brain became widely accepted. Is the “mind” that we have been searching for since ancient times just the product of electrical signals exchanged in brain synapses? With the deepening of deciphering, a language directly connected to the “mind” may be born in the near future, using computers as the medium. “Thero: The Mirror of the Mind” is an interactive installation art based on “brain computer interface” technology. Participants walk alone into the exhibition space and interact in real time with images and sounds generated from their brainwave signals. During this period, the experience and the ripples of change under the feet echo each other, not enough for external humanity, but only oneself can understand.

    Zhang Handuo
    Born in February 1994, multimedia artist, film director, Master of Digital Narrative, International Film School, Cologne. The work is committed to presenting reality through fictional narration, and to thinking about the nature and operation mode of various things through the medium of video. He now lives in North America and Europe.

  • Shanghai wind

    Lakeside Media Lab

    The Wind of Shanghai presents the unique charm of the digital city with dynamic and colorful changes of light and color. By installing wind gauges outdoors to obtain real-time wind data, the artist uses computer programming to translate the data into colorful light and shadow movements, thus poetically expressing the rhythm and rhythm generated by the originally invisible wind in the process of change.

    Lakeside Media Lab, located in Dushu Lake, Suzhou, is a new media creative team with interdisciplinary background, focusing on the intersection of art and technology.

  • Hair combing machine and wig robot

    Li Qijing

    The artist attempts to show an institutional system through a mechanical performance art. In this system, as long as the “managed” abide by the rules of the system, they have a relatively free period of activity. The artist created an interactive scene between a combing machine and a hair robot. In this relationship, the combing machine represents the power class, while the hair robot represents the governed. The hair robots usually have free movement, but when the bell rings, they must come to the hair combing machine to be combed. Every ten minutes a bell rings and the hair robot is brushed and temporarily freed.

    Li Qijing
    Born in Guangdong Province in 1995. She graduated with an undergraduate degree in imaging/New Media from the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA in Electronics from Pratt Institute of the Arts. She now lives and works in New York and Shenzhen. Her works explore the role of individuals in the world of science and technology and the expression of “self” in an environment. She likes to deconstruct and pull away from the norm, hoping to raise questions to the audience through her works.

  • Digital Fashion · Simulacra

    Yu Xuechun

    In the context of the digital age, the artist uses virtual jewelry as a medium to consider how people can expand the boundaries of identity construction and self-expression, and how they can interact and play with their own identities. Digital cards, AR filters, holograms etc. Break through the physical existence and wearing way of traditional jewelry, blur the boundary between reality and virtual, and form a “simulacra” simulation. Through digital virtual, the works form visual illusion and sensory aesthetics, create a digital fashion with a special sense of reality, and stimulate the integration practice between digital art and jewelry art.

    Yu Xuechun
    Born in November 1995, he now lives in Shanghai. From 2014 to 2021, I graduated from Nanjing University of the Arts majoring in digital media Design. In 2020, I established digital fashion brand SIMULACRA. In 2019, he went to study at Birmingham College of Art and Design, UK, and obtained a master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Practice (double) the following year.

  • A heavenly tome

    Guo Yaoxian

    The Book of the Sky reconstructs the most basic linguistic symbols and organizational logic of Morse Code in a woven structure – through the participation of the audience, the variables of the system increase, accumulate iterations, and form new “words,” “sentences,” or “poems.” At the same time, these “semantics” are also dissolved in the next second. The work explores the homology of text and textile, as well as the multi-dimensional relationship between the generation and resolution of “concept”, disorder and reconstruction.

    Guo Yaoxian
    Born in 1985 in Erguna City, Hulunbuir, Inner Mongolia, she received her master’s degree in Fiber and Space Art Studio, Department of Sculpture, China Academy of Art, in 2012, and has been studying for her doctorate in Sculpture and Public Art School, China Academy of Art, since 2016. He is good at using various scientific and technological media to explore artistic language and present concepts. His creative themes include cybernetics, system theory, etc. He often discusses the construction or deconstruction of order logic through the unknown chain butterfly effect triggered by human intervention, and triggers the cognition and thinking of individuals in complex systems among clusters, societies and cultures.

    Liu Yiwen/Guan Boyang

    The power of creation contains secrets and truths about the origin of life, and desire drives man to test the realm of God. Breaking the human taboos of immortality and belief gives birth to a matrix of biological organisms with mechanical properties under the network ecosystem. Using artificial materials to simulate the perception of living things, “Net Life” studies the behavior of life through digital media, and changes the focus of biological art from focusing on matter to focusing on life behavior. The sterile environment of the petri dish is simulated by a computer dry media processing system inside the device. The data program is used to control the input of the air pump to inject oxygen needed for survival into the bionic organisms in the matrix subcontainer. This biomimetic organism has the cellular characteristics of carbon-based organisms, and nurtures the feedback and murmur of life characteristics. At the same time, the device container will collect the living data information variables, activate the adaptive light source in the sphere, under photosynthesis, the bionic organism matrix forms a perfect closed loop of the ecosystem.

    Liu Yiwen
    Born in 1996, she is currently studying for a master’s degree in cross-media Art Science and Technology creation and research at the China Academy of Art. Creative media include interactive devices, programming, and virtual reality images. He lives in Hangzhou.

    Guan Boyang
    Hangzhou-born electronic music producer and Audio-Visual artist, he is one of the founders of FunctionLab, a pioneering electronic music label. He has a high enthusiasm for the mutant creatures in the science fiction world, and often uses this as a topic to discuss network society and intelligence, and named his Live scene Virtual biological industry.

  • The Eye of Weibo

    He Chenghao

    As the most extensive public information dissemination platform, Weibo is a collision of different attitudes and positions, and a virtual field where truth and illusion overlap. It is often difficult for the public to have a comprehensive and intuitive understanding of the thousands of comments on Weibo. Weibo Eye visualizes and contextualizes data from microblog comments. Emotions, attitudes, group images, and conflicts will be seen by anyone in the apple of the eye generated by the data. When the fragmented information is presented in the form of “apple of the eye”, can we explore the hidden information that is not perceived by the public? Talk to words and look at numbers through the eyes of Weibo.

    He Chenghao
    He is currently studying Art and Technology at China Academy of Art. His work deals with the behavior of code itself, the marginalization of numbers, and the hidden future.
    Chen Jiazi
    Currently studying at China Academy of Art, is a young digital art creator, currently living and working in Hangzhou. It is committed to reflecting the scale relationship between society and people and expressing self-views through digital images and multi-media spatial narrative creation.

  • Unknown luster of time and space

    Liu Xiaodan/Huo Shuhua/Low-Tech Art Lab

    The Luster of Unknown Spacetime is an array of 18 foldable sphere modules suspended in space. By collecting the wind speed, wind direction and air quality index of Wuhan during a certain period, the artist acts as a “library” to drive the changes of materials and forms, extending the viewer’s perception system to the natural field. At that time, the flowing data will become the silk thread that stitches the spiritual trauma, and the folding and opening and closing of the machine will also release the stretching tension of life, presenting a “flowing natural wonder” in the space.

    Liu Xiaodan
    Born in 1993, he is a member of low-tech Art Lab and a media designer. He graduated from Central China Normal University with a master’s degree in Design (Digital Media Design) in 2021. The work explores cross-media integration, including dynamic installations, interactive installations, programming, and data visualization.
    Huo Shuhua
    Born in 1997, he is a member of low-tech Art Lab and an animation designer. He graduated from Central China Normal University with a master’s degree in Design (Digital Media Design) in 2021. Artistic creation is based on thinking about the current social culture, exploring the integration of art and new media technologies such as data visualization.

    Huang Tian

    If a machine has independent senses and autonomous consciousness, how will it interpret this human-centered world through words, words, behaviors, sounds, and graphic symbols? Humans have been on this planet for more than 10,000 days. Everything seen and heard on this planet has become normal, without a single surprise; Even the most bizarre events can be causally reconstructed through the existing thinking logic in our conceptual system and get an unusually reasonable explanation.

  • Red Dolphin Cove

    Chen Zijian, Yang Jinhe, Luo Wanye, Chen Nuo, Jiang Boqin

    In Taiji, East Muro Prefecture, Wakayama Prefecture, Japan, there is a decades-old tradition – local fishermen will catch more than 20,000 dolphins and small whales from mid-September to March each year, and the dolphins selected by dolphin trainers will be high-quality dolphins, and not selected dolphins will be killed and sold in the market. Based on this event, the work built six visual interaction Spaces, players control the virtual character, walk and browse in this unreal and real space, feel the complexity and multi-faceted of the entire event, including the dolphin’s crying space; Space for villagers to maintain their emotions; Explosive media space, etc.

    Chen Zijian
    Born in August 2000, he studied at the School of Innovative Design, China Academy of Art. His works mainly focus on exploring spatial narration and cross-media research, and he is good at combining humanities and technology. He has participated in the 13th Shanghai Biennale “Ecological Alliance”, Asian Digital Art Exhibition, West Bund and other domestic exhibitions.
    Yang Jinha
    I studied at the Institute of Industry and Landscape, College of Innovative Design, China Academy of Art. My main research focus is on industrial form and social landscape, focusing on the presentation of vision and patterns. Won scholarships at school for many times, and the team’s works have participated in the Shanghai Biennale.
    Luo Wanye
    Studying at the Institute of Society and Strategy, College of Innovative Design, China Academy of Art, he is committed to studying the meaning behind social phenomena and presenting them in various artistic ways.
    Chen Nuo
    Studying at the Institute of Media and Interaction, School of Innovative Design, China Academy of Art, he is interested in exploring “different destinies” in time and space and the narrative reconstruction of events that have happened.

  • The Privacy Sonata

    Tan Ganquan

    “Privacy Sonata” consists of five metal robotic arms wrapped in deformed bones and homemade sound controllers, whose overall shape is shaped into a kind of totemic data life. The artist uses personal privacy data (acceleration sensors, gyroscopes, GPS positioning, etc.) as material and turns it into the driving force of the sound mechanism, and then develops self-monitoring into a disorganized sonata of “data life”.

    Tan Ganquan
    Born in Kaiping, Guangdong Province in 1995, he graduated from the Experimental Art Department of Trans-Media College of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 2020.

  • The Creator's ball game

    Lv Yijie

    The work is based on the memory and experience of the artist’s childhood in the township primary school. The old school desk has been transformed into a special pool table, which does not aim to “hit the target ball first”, but uses the table top as a sand table. When the ball rolls and collides on the table with the star map, the image on the table changes in sound, and the interaction between the ball, table and projection jointly constructs the fragmented narrative.

    Lv Yijie
    Born in 1999 in Lijiang, Yunnan Province, he is currently studying at the Experimental Art Department of the School of Cross-Media Art, China Academy of Art, and now lives in Hangzhou. Lv Yijie’s creation starts from memory and image, and uses video, installation, photography, three-dimensional animation and other media for spatial narrative.

  • Evolution of New Things

    Zuo Yang

    Evolution of New Things is a community of inorganic organisms with multi-species properties. This biome gets “nutrients” from human data through the intervention of the audience. Each small mechanical structure is coated with a photosensitive element that absorbs a controlled light source to achieve the “photosynthesis” required for activity. The artist deconstructs his body model on different screens through 3D scanning, using data to control the movement of the machine, so that the body is no longer confined to the space. In a future where everything is connected and time tends to be flat, space also changes with things. Flesh, machinery and information have become new dimensions, and a new species of organic and inorganic integration has evolved.

    Zuo Yang
    Born in Hangzhou in 1996, he graduated from the Department of Mobile Media Art of Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts. Now he is studying at the Department of cross-Media Art of China Academy of Art.
