SCI-FI ING x LONG YOU
"Nothing ages faster than the future - Stanislaw Lem"
SCI-FI ING is the theme of the 2nd Emerging Sci-tech Artist Awards and it is also a focus point for the work of the Raiden INST for the past two years. In an age where technology is developing at a pace far beyond individual cognitive abilities, the human beyond human (artificial intelligence or robotics) and the space beyond space (meta-universe or space travel) may come to us at any time, leaving us in a state of uncertainty. The verb “sci-fi” suggests a wider spatial and temporal scale in which we can view the seemingly trustworthy but fleeting concepts of humanity, the universe, and technology. The “science fiction that is happening” does not point to the future; it is open to all imagined, planned, and created visions.
Although there are three directions of the competition, namely AIGC, Games, and Space Research in Metaverse, “In Science Fiction” is more like a call to young artists who are concerned with this state and topic, rather than a proposition for them to create their own works. After the jury’s initial review and the inevitable “score-counting,” 16 works were selected, and we look forward to finding more iterations and exhibition opportunities for these individual artists and groups within our limited capacity. In the recently concluded Zhujiajiao Ultra-Immersive Art Season, three of these works have already been deepened and brought to fruition. This time, “Sci-Fi·Longyou”, through the release of the “Hu·Shi·Guang” project, ushered in an opportunity for the entire “Countryside Art Museum” to come to fruition.

01 Intelligent memory recall
In the first unit, three works, The Da Vinci Project: The New Renaissance, The Imagination of the Other, and LanFang_Reality, use AI technology to explore and reflect on the fragments of a historical narrative, which may be the instinct of human beings at the beginning of the emergence of a new technology. That is the exploration of the past unknown and the urge to make up for missing memories.
02 The next dimension puts on a great show
In the second section, five works, Ecosphere 3, The Outsider, Fertilizer, Hui, or Non-Exotic, use a game engine to simulate and construct a virtual dimension with an independent narrative, and their creators include architects, artists, game designers and developers, among others.
03 Controls are all linked
The unit includes three works, Two Little Children Arguing about the Sun, Poetry Bot and Modular Theatre. In the systems and procedures designed by the artist, the machine and the machine, the machine and the audience are engaged in a “cybernetic theatre”. It is worth mentioning that due to the co-operation opportunity in the previous “Zhujiajiao” exhibition, a team of teachers and students from East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST), who assisted the artist in the remote production at that time, also joined in the extension and creation of a work. The old objects collected from the villagers and the well in front of the house are connected by sensors, and an “Internet of Things Theatre” is about to start.
04 There's a problem with communications
Only the Clouds Know, Look, Maria’s Veil, Galaxy Telecom, and 4.5() are five works with different styles, but all of them present the difficulties of information communication and human communication to the audience.
