IMMERSIVE X

"The exhibitionis both a tribute to Mr Qian's introduction of the theory of VirtualReality technology in the last century, and a response to the current digital existence and meta-universe aspirations."

It was not until the end of the 1970s, with the maturity of the CRT technology, that the “virtual reality” technology began to enter the material life of human beings, presenting new narratives. In 1990, Qian Xuesen translated the term “virtual reality” with the local term “spiritual realm”.

However, due to the technical bottlenecks and limitations associated with it, “virtual reality” has gradually been forgotten in the course of historical development. The reintroduction of the term “virtual reality” cannot be separated from the recent exploration of the “metaverse”, where the post-human situation, digitalised physical bodies and immersive physical sensations are shaping our imagination of the future world.

In the exhibition, SMG LIVE and Raiden Institute co-created this special “sensory laboratory” – the technological art exhibition “Spiritual Realm”, which was officially opened to the public on 18th November 2022 at the Dresden-Newseum. The exhibition is collectively presented by four immersive artworks by four artists/groups and the Raiden Institute’s 2022 meta-universe digital curatorial series project “Cloudy Cloudy Cloudy Cloudy Cloudy Cloudy Cloudy Cloudy Cloudy Cloudy Cloudy Cloudy Cloudy Cloudy Cloudy Cloudy Cloudy”.
Entitled “Spiritual Realm”, the exhibition is both a tribute to Mr Qian’s introduction of the theory of VIRTUAL REALITY technology in the last century, as well as a response to the contemporary digital existence and meta-universe aspirations.
